The Italian version of the new edition of “The international classification for seasonal snow on the ground” was edited by AINEVA, like the previous one.
Published in 2009 by UNESCO under the patronage of International Association of Cryosphere Science (IACS), it is the product of an international working group set up in 2003 with the aim of reviewing and updating the classification issued in 1990 by the International Snow and Ice Commission (ICSI) and which has so far continued an essential point of reference for researchers and technicians working in snow field.
This was necessary because, from 1990 onwards, knowledge of snow and observation techniques have evolved, interest groups, from researchers to simple observers of avalanche services, have increased and therefore the need to have a now concise document which, while maintaining the ease of use unchanged, was more up to date from a scientific point of view and at the same time responded to different needs.
The new classification, like the previous one, mainly deals with seasonal snow even if the basic concepts can be extended up to the formation of firn and ice. Snow is classified taking into consideration, both the morphological aspects of the particles and the physical process that originate them.
The cost of the publication is € 10,00, shipping costs included.
