General information on AINEVA courses

AINEVA organizes a series of professional level technical training courses on snow and avalanche issues, in order to provide persons seeking employment with avalanche risk management operations with a broad understanding of the main subjects (theoretical and practical) useful to operate.
Such courses are intended for the following categories of users:

  • self-employed professionals operating in the mountain environment (transportation, industry, guiding, outdoor education);
  • personnel working in ski areas;
  • mountain roads superintendents and safety managers;
  • civil protection technicians;
  • members of local avalanche commissions and of public forecasting centers;
  • anyone who enjoy winter recreation in the backcountry interested in learning more about avalanche safety in a professional context.

The courses are organized in sequential levels and modules.
The entry module to have access to professional level technical training courses is module 2a.
Participation to courses is subject to verification that users meet the requirements for access, as specified in detail for each module.
Teaching aids and tools for practical tests are provided by the association. The registration fee also includes costs for skilifts, transport means, guided tours and insurance coverage.
Participants have to pay for board and lodging, and hotel reservation expenses; the Organization will provide indications for hotel accommodation.
The personal equipment required for participation to courses include: adequate mountain wear for outdoor activities on snow covered terrain (skis, boots, gloves, hat, anorak, backpack), avalanche probe, shovel.
The lack of skiing skills, if any, will have to be clearly indicated in the pre-registration module, as well as the lack of self-rescue equipment.

Each AINEVA courses has its own evaluation stage which is a combination of written tests and exercises, field book observations, practical examinations and discussions with an examination commission. Attendance to both theoretical and practical courses is compulsory in order to have access to the final evaluation stage. Date and place for each examination session is notified to all participants. Students must obtain a minimum of 21/30 on all assessment categories to pass the exam and attain the qualification certificate for each module which will be delivered to them.

Pre-registration can only be carried out by using the special form to be requested from AINEVA secretariat, or by printing and sending the modules published in these pages during every season.
Admission to courses will be confirmed by a written letter from AINEVA secretarial staff.
