SNOW OBSERVER COURSE – MODULE 2A
TARGETS
This course provides basic knowledge on snow and avalanches subjects, particularly referring to the techniques of measurement of snow and weather data and avalanche classification.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Holding a middle school diploma and having average skiing abilities.
SUBJECTS DEALT WITH
Alpine meteorology, snowcover formation and evolution, avalanche types and classification, factors leading to avalanche release and recognizing avalanche terrain, measurement tools and observation and survey techniques, structure of avalanche bulletins, self-rescue and elements of organized rescue.
DURATION
4 days for a total of 32 hours (24 hours of theory + 8 hours of training in the field). The detailed programme will be defined based on the meteorological situation and local snowcover conditions (a fifth optional day is also provided at the end of the course during which snow profiles can be carried out for the final exam).
FINAL EVALUATION
A certificate is issued to participants upon their passing a written and oral test and after presenting two ram profiles and snow profiles carried out by apprentices during the winter season and certified by an ANEVA avalanche office.
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS ADMITTED
The course allows for participation of up to 30 people (a minimum of 15 people are required for the course to start).
